The Underbelly Project

My friend Kat from New York sent this to me.

In 2009 a project began four stories under the skin of New York City. For 100 years a massive subway station sat unfinished, unused and undiscovered. Over the course of the last year, artists have been secretly escorted into that station to leave there creative mark. Unobstructed by the pressure of commercial sales, email or daily routines, artists painted for one full night. The original entrance has since been removed and darkness has reclaimed the station. It has become an illusive pirate treasure of contemporary art.

  1. Ah this is so cool! The New York City subways are so dirty that it's actually kind of beautiful.

  2. Wow this is such an amazing concept! Artwork on random buildings, walls, and tunnels are the most beautiful in my opinion...

  4. I love that flag by Faile - usually I'm not too big a fan of 'tribal' inspired patterns, but the red and white was so bright against the wall that I had to like it.

  6. that is the coolest thing! it is so cool that those artists want to create this work just for the sake of art, not to be seen or appreciated by anyone. also it is crazy that they have to sneak around to do it because of the risk of terrorism the hidden station presents! or something like that! i love it.
